Elemental Interview ~ Nicole Ford

unicornGuided Unicorn Meditation for Kids. Yes, you read that right! (and perhaps you’ve already seen it here on SMG!) Does it get any more magical? This has to be one of the most interesting meditations I’ve ever come across and I love that it’s geared towards children, including the Inner Child. I wanted to share this again today because this Full Moon weekend is quite intense, and this is a great way to relax for yourself, or your little ones that are having a hard time settling with these energies.

Read more about this Meditation and get the link here:

https://sacredmoongrove.wordpress.com/2016/01/23/unicorn-meditation-for-kids/

It was put together by therapist Nicole Ford:

Part of my work with children is to help them connect with their own inner resources. Children are quite adept at connecting to magical and imaginative ideas and resources that can help them cope with challenges at school, home, or internally. This meditation helps children learn how to relax their bodies while connecting to a resource that will help them feel supported and loved. This meditation is good to use anytime – winding down after an exciting day, for fun, or to relax before bed. This specific meditation was inspired by a friend’s lovely daughter who reminds us all to believe in fairies, mermaids, and of course, unicorns.

Of course, I had to ask her to do the Elemental Interview.

Unicorn Meditation… I know. ❤

~Elemental Interview~

earth

Earth: What do you do to ground yourself & maintain balance?

To ground myself and maintain balance I take a salt bath almost nightly. There I can think, read, relax, and receive. I get all of my good ideas and intuitions in the tub! I also generally eat really healthy and try to get a lot of laughter into my day. I also find the more time I have in nature the better I feel. Some nights I like to come home from work and pet the dog and hang out on the couch with my boyfriend watching something completely mindless on Netflix.

air

Air: How do you engage or feed your imagination/intellect?

It is hard for me to shut my imagination off and I am always analyzing and seeking to learn more. I am a perpetual student and many things spark my interest. I am really lucky to have the privilege to be a child therapist, so I get to spend my days hanging out in the magical space of imagination. Being around kids helps me stay in touch with magic. I also love good books for that. Garcia Marquez or Tom Robbins. And of course being in that relaxed space where you aren’t trying to come up with anything (hello bath!) or force ideas is really helpful. Places like the shower or walking can birth grand ideas.

fire

Fire: What motivates you to keep going, what inspires you?

What motivates me? Keeps me going? I’m a Leo. I got lotsa passion for lotsa things. But that passion/joy/excitement must be behind something or I just can’t bring myself to do it. Other people really motivate me. I try to always ask myself, “how can I be of service.” And just follow whatever guidance I am given. Other people really inspire me. Things I read, stories about underdogs, the stars, art, films, clouds, you name it. It moves me.

water

Water: What do you love, what engages your intuitive side?

What do I love? Ah. Everything. Especially people, Jay-my bf, the moon, the ocean, the sky, music, travel, reading, spirit, the universe, and Mt. Rainier. All of these things engage my intuitive side. Being in alignment with the universe engages my intuition.

spirit

Spirit: What is your personal, spiritual practice. What makes you feel connected to Spirit?

What is my personal spiritual practice? Love. Plain and simple. Striving for unconditional love of myself and unconditional love of others. When I am in the vibration of love and joy I am in God’s vibration. Nature also makes me feel very connected to spirit.

Elemental Interview ~ Annabel Gat

Elemental Interview

You know that flutter you get when something comes along that makes you feel like there’s a reason for things? And sometimes it comes from something so damn specific you can’t harbor any doubt that there are lessons we signed up for before we got here? Such is the case with Ms. Annabel Gat’s horoscopes over at Broadly.com. I had a situation that I was lamenting over back in December, and came across her horoscopes in the most serendipitous of ways. It was accurate to the day. Mercury Square Jupiter in Virgo:

While work and popularity are going well, tension will arrive in your relationships on December 4, when Mercury squares Jupiter. Jupiter is the planet of growth and expansion, and it’s currently in Earth sign Virgo, highlighting the relationship center of your chart. The next few months are major around you growing your relationships and taking them to the next level; however, on December 4, the challenge from Mercury (the planet of communication and logic) will ask you to detach and objectively examine how things are going in your partnerships. Are solid boundaries in place? Are there things you need to get off your chest? And, very importantly, do you and your partner(s) share the same vision of the future? Mercury is in philosophical Sagittarius, a sign that is all about big dreams and visions. If you and your partners are not aiming for similar goals, what will that mean for your relationships—not only your romantic ones, but friendly, professional and creative partnerships as well?

It felt like the situation I had encountered was inevitable in some ways, and Annabel’s writing gave me a sense of peace about the whole thing.

Her spirit & style made me curious about how she’d answer the Elemental Interview……

earth
Earth: What do you do to ground yourself & maintain balance?

It took me a long time to realize that this will change frequently for me. I used to feel like I was doing something very wrong if something that used to ground me, stopped working. I’ve realized that part of balance is change and that I’m not fucking up as a human being if something that used to work for me stops working— it might work again, and it could just be time to try something new! Currently, walking in nature while listening to talk radio is a great anchor for me. So is cuddling with my cat or boyfriend. Also: Reading!

air
Air: How do you engage or feed your imagination/intellect?

Puzzles, card and board games are a new love of mine. I’m very inspired by game theory.

fire
Fire: What motivates you to keep going, what inspires you?

My family and bringing them security in any form is what inspires me everyday.

water
Water: What do you love, what engages your intuitive side?

I love people and I love laughing. My intuition is much sharper after I’ve laughed a lot.

spirit
Spirit: What is your personal, spiritual practice. What makes you feel connected to Spirit?

This is constantly changing for me, but for sure being with the people I love keeps me connected to spirit.

(Bonus questions!)

Can you tell us a little about how you got into Astrology, what got you hooked?

My own self absorption got me hooked— I got my first astrology books in 5th grade, and I was so excited to have a frame work for self examination.

What would your advice be to those just delving into Astrology?

It’s easy to get addicted to having your mind blown, as in going to lectures or getting readings that inspire you believe there is “more” out there— you will “crash” when you stop being able to get what you need spiritually from astrology, and you will be miserable. Astrology is not a belief system. Do not believe in Astrology and definitely don’t believe in astrologers— they are just people. Use astrology as a tool for self discovery but don’t expect it to save you. All the information you need is within you, outside information is meaningless.

annabelAnnabel Gat is a practicing astrologer certified by the International Society for Astrological Research. She also holds a Horary practitioner’s certificate from the School of Traditional Astrology and is a well respected tarot reader.

She has a wildly popular daily and monthly horoscope column with Vice’s women’s interest channel, Broadly, and her horoscopes are a daily feature on Vice’s Snapchat channel.

Elemental Interview ~ Sol Jonassen

I want to introduce you to a beautiful soul….Sol Jonassen. Sol is one of the first people I connected with after joining the forums at New Paradigm Astrology. I vividly remember seeing her photo – it instantly jumped out at me, a stunning black & white photo with the only color being her blue eyes…

sol2http://newparadigmastrology.com/sol

“This is my kinda girl” was my immediate instinct. We chatted and she helped me decipher my natal chart, I really resonated with her easygoing  manner and deep knowledge. A few months later I decided to get a professional chart reading from her. We talked for almost 2 hours, going over my struggles & strengths. The session (via Skype, since Sol is in Norway) ended with a profound insight being revealed to me: I belong here. “Welcome to Earth” she said…. which touched me especially because this exact phrase is in my very favorite quote by the late Kurt Vonnegut:

welcometoearth

This session kicked off a very profound change deep within me. I literally felt rays of hope pierce through the diffuse clouds I had been under for so long. Sunday seemed the perfect day for her Elemental Interview….

earth

Earth: What do you do to ground yourself & maintain balance?

I do a lot of yoga and meditation. I maintain a steady yoga practice 3 times a week and meditation every morning. Breathing is vital for being grounded, so having enough time to take a breath is important. If I feel my body is depleted, I lay down and chill until my batteries are charged again and I can continue with whatever duties I have in the house. Then I love working in the house. Doing things by force merely depletes my energy. With 2 young kids in the house it is easy to be overwhelmed. But daring to break the rules of always doing, keeps me grounded. My kids also keeps me grounded. Being a real work nerd, I have had the experience of not knowing how other people live their lives. They inspire me to be more engaged in what is known as everyday life. I like walking in the woods with them and have a great conversation with their awesomeness.

air

Air: How do you engage or feed your imagination/intellect?

I write, study esoterics or astrology and read. Meditation is also vital here, because it feeds my field with insights into what I currently studying and I get a nice feed from a higher realm every day. I also have a good deal of friends that I share with. I am lucky to have found my tribe. They are there to share with me their bliss and we feed into eachother like this. I find interesting things everywhere. That I blame my natal moon in Gemini for. Thank goodness for my incessant curiosity. Freedom from boredom indeed.

fire

Fire: What motivates you to keep going, what inspires you?

I am motivated by love and joy. I love my work. I am like a little kid in a candy store and I feel so grateful to be able to have a work that is its own source of inspiration. I am a classic work geek, and there is just not enough hours of the day. I get an extra kick of inspiration wherever I find the beauty of logic, or of syncronicites. When I see that people get help or find inspiration through the service I offer, it is its own reward. I also feel extremely grateful when I get to learn more about what I am in the process of understanding. Nothing beats that moment when the right kind of information comes to you in the right time.

water

Water: what do you love, what engages your intuitive side?

Meditation again. It is hard to imagine a life without such a source of insight. It is where I can explore my intuition and explore if the connection of the first rule in astrology, as above, so below. I also like the intimate sharing of people. There is nothing duller than a relationship that never makes it to the deep waters.

spirit

Spirit: what is your personal, spiritual practice. What makes you feel connected to Spirit?

I practice the inner side of yoga, and I cultivate a conscious relationship to my soul. Truthful living is very important and I spent a long time resolving issues of purity complexes. The freedom of humans lies in the ability to not having to be perfect all the time. Finding this balance between being human and in a process, and still seek liberation from illusion is a great task that takes time. Humanity itself is a great source of inspiration in this sense, and I often feel that my greatest spiritual inspirations comes from those who teach me how to not do it . I also practice forgiveness. It sets me free to merge with love again.

Elemental Interview ~ Jane Leu Rekas

Today’s Elemental Interview will be Jane Leu Rekas! Jane is a regular contributor here on SMG, and I really wanted to see how she connects personally with the Elements… Jane is fascinating to me because of how she blends the “mainstream” with the Metaphysical, and I love how she is constantly looking at the world from different angles. Curiosity is what drives us into Becoming, and my interactions with Jane have definitely fed my curiosity!

earthEarth: What do you do to ground yourself & maintain balance?

I will be answering these in reference to my Astrological Natal Chart.
my chart
The only earth in my chart are Pluto and Uranus in Virgo (which are part of my t-square). So I’m not surprised that I like to try to organize things to feel grounded. Now, I actually don’t have my whole life that organized, such as I have a problem with piles and filing. I love to sit on the ground itself and to have my shoes off and touch the ground with my feet. When I am doing Reiki, I start with people’s feet and send our energy together into the core of the earth. At work, I often wear Sandalwood essential oil, which I find to be grounding and to protect me from negative energy, when I need it.

air
Air: How do you engage or feed your imagination/intellect?
The only air in my chart is my North Node in Gemini* which makes me feel that sharing ideas is playful and fun for me… I always wonder about this, because I think of myself as pretty intellectual, but I suppose it’s a thought process of a different element, with my Mercury in Scorpio (water**). Also, my North Node makes me perhaps overly interested in being mental/intellectual?
“You came into this lifetime with a great deal of truth and spiritual knowledge to share. This is learning you accumulated over lifetimes of study and developing your intuition. Now you must must learn how to spread the “gospel” as you see it. You will either be loved or reviled by those you reach with your message. It’s not easy task. Some of the most controversial figures of our time show just how divisive north node in gemini can make a person. Ariel Sharon, Oliver Stone, Che Guevera, George Bush, Andy Warhol, O.J.Simpson, Salman Rushdie, Camile Paglia, Dr. Ruth, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Bertrand Russell all have north node in gemini. Like them, you must learn to join the society of man, exchange information with your peers, and broadcast your higher truth, creating admirers and critics as you do, but mostly making friends.”
**Mercury in Scorpio is passionate, and this comes through when they communicate. They usually want to help others, and may even share some of the insights they have… as long as they are about other people, not themselves. Their observation skills are beyond the pale, and more often than not have seen something others have missed.”)
fire
Fire: What motivates you to keep going, what inspires you?
I have lots of Sagittarius Fire: Moon, Venus, Mars, Rising (the apex planets of my t-square). I love the metaphor of the archer casting arrows out into the philosophical world, pursuing lines of thought, and constantly expanding. I have a very integrative mind, meaning I want many things to connect and my world view evolves over time (as all of ours do). I also have a very integrationist spirituality. When not depressed (see my water), I am very passionate, artistic and creative. Also humanitarian and deeply compassionate.
water
Water: what do you love, what engages your intuitive side?
I have a water Grand Trine. I am a Scorpio, also with Scorpio Mercury and Neptune. I have Saturn in Pisces and Jupiter exalted in Cancer. So, I love deep exploration, do not love small talk. I love being of service, though I can be crabby about it at times. I love expansive philosophy. I have been mildly depressed most of my life, which I think can be a Scorpio affliction, because the desire to go deep can become heavy. I also am so compassionate and empathetic, that I take on too much of other people’s energy, and have to work on psychic protection.
spirit

Spirit: What is your personal spiritual practice, what makes you feel connected to Spirit?

I am less disciplined than I would like to be in answer to what practice I keep, but what I intermittently do involves integration of Astrology, Tarot, Wiccca, Buddhism, Mindfulness, A Course in Miracles, Gnostic Christianity, Self-Hypnosis, Reiki, Starseed Activation, Quantum Psychology and Transpersonal Counseling exploration.
flourish2
From my Overleaves psychic reading from the Michael Teachings:

“My True Work / Life Task: Learning how to do sacred service; learning to become a healer. This comes from your North Node in the 6th House.

My True Play: Playing with communication, sharing ideas, speaking, reading, writing, exploring the world with curiosity, perhaps with a spicy irony and humor. This comes from your North Node in Gemini.

My True Rest: Resting at home surrounded by good food and comfortable furniture; also, resting by a quiet lake, river, creek or waterfall. This comes from your Jupiter in Cancer.

My True Study: The study of philosophy, higher consciousness, meaning, archetypes, religious beliefs and the mind. Part of your True Study involves personal research on how religious and mundane beliefs get formed by personal experiences and unconscious drives. This True Study comes from your Moon in Sagittarius in the 12th House.”

Elemental Interview ~ Natalie Sudman

Every so often something comes into your life that radically alters your perception of Reality. For me, that something was the book Application of Impossible Things by Natalie Sudman…

applicationofimpossiblethings

This is an amazing true story of a female civilian employee of the Army Corps of Engineers in Basrah and Nasiriyah, Iraq. She was riding in a truck with other men when a roadside bomb destroyed the vehicle. Her body was so severely damaged that there was no possible way she could live. She vividly recounts her Near Death Experience when she went out of the body to the spirit world. There it was decided that her work on Earth was not done and with the help of spirit guides, they repaired the body so she could reenter it. She retained the conscious memory of what happened and during the time in the hospital, more details returned. This is the amazing story of a survival in wartime conditions. This has happened to many others in Iraq, but how many remember the spirit side of the experience?

Before this experience, Sudman was dubious about anything that smacked of the paranormal. This experience made her a believer. She shares her story here for the first time to demonstrate that the paranormal is normal and to assist others who have had similar experiences.

This is a book for anyone interested in near death experiences and out of body experiences. It is one of the first such book to come out of the Iraq conflict.
– Amazon.com

I still vividly remember sitting on the couch reading by my amber glass table lamp one evening last fall…. I had what can only be described as a Mystical Experience as the fear of death left my body with a series of chills and what felt like waves of sparkling electricity coursing through my body. By the time I finished reading this book (do not think this is a book to be breezed through – at 128 pages, I thought it would be a quick read, but it took me a good week to finish it, since I really had to let the concepts the book presented sink in – this is a very dense book, content-wise) I felt changed, lighter, with more optimism for the the future than I had felt in a really long time. Natalie’s book became an instant favorite, and I began recommending it to practically everyone that crossed my path!

When I first started this blog, I had an idea to include features and interviews, along with the articles, and had come up with what I dubbed the Elemental Interview, based on the 5 elements of nature. You can only imagine my delight when Natalie agreed to do the inaugural Elemental Interview!

So here it is, without further ado!

~ Druyan

~ Elemental Interview~

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

“Earth: What do you do to ground yourself and maintain balance?

Being out in nature is really my favorite grounding and balancing. I like to walk, but it also works to just touch a plant or the dirt, no matter where I am. Actively engaging by concentrating on sounds, smells, or touch – how the wind feels on my skin, how the grass feels against my ankles – this is an effortless way to bring myself into the present and relax.
air

Air: How do you engage or feed your imagination/intellect?

I don’t really think of my imagination and/or intellect as needing feeding. They may more often need a blanket over the cage to calm them down (ha), or perhaps a structure to help engage the energy in a way that’s not just random and sort of chaotic.

I’m an artist, so that’s how I most commonly engage the imagination and intellect.
I also love to read and write. I love to read because it takes me places that I may not experience in this lifetime (emotionally, physically, intellectually, whatever), or even imagine. Reading certainly feeds imagination and intellect, and in a relaxing way. Writing engages imagination and intellect in a very different way than reading. Writing is more like working on art: writing and art really require that the imagination and intellect be involved with each other in an active, kinetic balance. They must expand each other in order to create something more than either intellect or imagination alone is capable of.

fire

Fire: What motivates you to keep going; what inspires you?

I think what inspires me is, like the grounding and balance, nature. The natural world is amazing in its complexity, and in its simplicity and beauty. It’s endlessly interesting and inspires my curiosity. The natural world is also free of pretense, intellectual tangles and other human challenges so it feels clean and clear to me. It’s a reminder to keep it simple, soak up the experience, live the moment.

What motivates me to keep going … I don’t know what that means. If “to keep going” means “what keeps you doing what you like to do”, then the answer has to be: what I like to do keeps me doing what I like to do. If by “to keep going” is meant “what keeps you from committing suicide” I would have to say almost nothing.  We’re infinite beings, and so we’re always “going”, always aware, always in the moment which will always be a part of every moment. In my experience we don’t need motivation to keep going … maybe we sometimes need motivation to enjoy the fact that “going” is inevitable.

water

Water: What do you love, what engages your intuitive side?

These are two very different questions … What engages my intuitive side … again I’ll have to say nature. Also play, exercise, repetitive motion, writing and doing artwork. These are things that allow my analyzer-mind to slow down, relax, be quiet. Then my intuitive mind engages more freely.

The things that I love are too numerous to list. A list like that wouldn’t make sense anyway. It would include everything from old hiking boots and saddles to the sound of an exploding mortar and a hug — and still not really explain what I love. The word ‘love’ is a very broad and forgiving word in the English language, so it can include anything and still be accurate and true.

When anything is fully experienced within the moment, when we’re fully aware within a moment, we become aware of ourselves as ourselves within this moment, this unique experience. We become aware of ourselves and of whatever it is that we love from the viewpoint of our infinite mind. When we are aware through that infinite mind, we can know ourselves as expressions of All That Is, which is Love. We are creating love and being created by it. We think of love as an emotion, but to me love is a state of being, it’s a field that I am always within. I love becoming aware that I’m within it.

When I got back from Iraq I said that I loved working in Iraq. Even when I hated it, there was no place else I wanted to be. I believe that our whole selves are always saying that about this embodied life … that our whole selves are always creating and being created within the field of love, and that even when things don’t look that great from the human point of view, when we hate the moment, there’s no place else we as whole selves want to be.

With all that in mind, then, I’ll say that I love being aware of and within the sensuous nature of physical reality. I love the touch, smell, taste, feel, and sound of things, be they objects or experiences, beings or ideas. What do I love in particular? Sooner or later, … everything.

spirit

Spirit: What is your personal, spiritual practice. What makes you feel connected to Spirit?

My personal practice shifts and changes. I get bored easily, so I change things around. I don’t think it matters what I do as a practice; what matters is that I practice, in some personal way, being aware of my own awareness. Remembering who I am and what I am – an infinite being. That’s when I feel closest to the All That Is: when I’m fully owning and embodying myself as an infinite being experiencing through this physical world as it is. ”
